If you’ve been around for a while, you’ve probably checked out a few Chinese-made off road products at some point. Most of the time, you know what to expect—something inexpensive, usually not the highest quality, but cheap enough to make it tempting. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
A few years back, I bought my granddaughters a small Chinese quad to mess around with when they came camping. Other than the thumb throttle breaking somehow, it actually ran pretty well—as long as you stayed on flat ground. It wasn’t built for punishment, but I kept it in good shape for a couple of years and ended up selling it for about what I paid for it.
The Chinese powersports market has been growing quite a bit lately, and one brand that stands out is CFMoto. They’ve been making ATVs for a long time, and I recently got a chance to check out one that a buddy of mine bought. Honestly, I was impressed—it looked slick, felt solid, and was built to take some abuse. He swears it runs like a champ.
Now that CFMoto has entered the side-by-side world, I’ve been really curious to see what they bring to the table. Unfortunately, since UTVSpot doesn’t have the same clout as some of the big sites (yet), CFMoto—or anyone else, for that matter—hasn’t exactly been knocking on my door for a test ride. Maybe someday.
After digging through a bunch of reviews, though, it seems CFMoto’s side-by-sides are earning some solid praise compared to the big-name UTV brands. When I bought my first base-model RZR, I now realize that for about the same money, I could’ve had a CFMoto with more features. And from what I’ve seen, they hold up well—hardly any reports of things breaking under stress. That’s a big deal considering the reputation older Chinese machines had.
If I had some extra cash lying around, I’d pick one up right now just to cruise around camp or hang out at the lake for the day. My only hang-up? Rolling up next to a bunch of high-end rigs and trying not to feel self-conscious about what I’m driving. There, I said it. Im a child. Don’t judge me—I can’t be the only one who’s felt that way.
Anyway, if anyone reading this owns a CFMoto, jump into the conversation! I’d really love to hear your thoughts and experiences with these machines.
