By now you’ve probably seen a few reviews pop up on the new Teryx H2. One that caught my eye—of all places—was from Car and Driver. It looks like this machine is living up to most of the hype, but there’s one drawback that stood out to me as both a builder and a fan of high-performance vehicles.

According to their report, if you push it hard in full-power mode for a while, the belt heats up and triggers a warning. Now, it’s good that the system warns you, but on a production machine with this kind of price tag, the belt shouldn’t overheat from casual riding—especially in somewhere like Ocotillo Wells, which is mostly flat.

I’ve cooked belts plenty of times on my RZRs, but that was only after some serious technical riding—slow climbs, rocky off-camber terrain, and a few three-point turns that worked the clutch hard. In those situations, you can smell the belt complaining before it gives up. If the Kawasaki can’t handle wide-open throttle without overheating, that raises the question: what’s the point of having 250 horsepower if the transmission can’t take the abuse?

That said, I still like the little touches, like the inner door panels. You can check out the full Car and Driver review here:
