This morning while updating the UTVSpot site and browsing around the interwebs, I stumbled across an article on OffroadXtreme.com announcing that the YXR1000R is being discontinued. That’s a real bummer to me—being able to shift a UTV like a dune buggy or other off-road machines always felt like a hot ticket in the SXS world. As a Gen-X’er, it just made sense.

Sure, I own a Polaris with a belt-driven CVT, but shifting has always been part of the experience for me and many others who grew up in that era. Unfortunately, like cars, it seems the new generation doesn’t care to learn how to shift or appreciate the benefits.

It’s a shame. I’ve always had a soft spot for the YXR1000R, and if the right financial opportunity had come along, I would’ve picked one up to relive those golden days. I guess I missed my chance at buying a new one.

The king is dead—long live the king!
